Upgrade Firmware
Added by warren worthington 11 months ago
Hi,
I would like to upgrade the CmuCam4 firmware to v102, but the card is not recognized by the Propeller Tool.
I get the following error message: No Propeller chip found on serial port.
I'm running Propeller Tool v1.2.7 R2 on seven 64 bits.
I use FTDI Basic Breakout - 3.3V (http://www.sparkfun.com/products/9873)
I have CMUCAM4 Lextronic model.
I followed the programming guide until step 9. Before I click Load EEPROM, both red and green LEDs are lit. When I click the button, the red LED lights off and I get the error message.
Thanks for your help

The 3.3V FTDI basic breakout board does not supply enough power. You need to provide an external 5V source.
... The red light shouldn't be on ... The CMUCam4 usually won't power up with a 3.3V power input. Weird... A 4V or high source should fix the problem.
Thanks,

So I plug an external 7.5 V sources to the DC Barrel Jack, but it does the same.
During the installation of the propeller tool, drivers are copied to the system.
Do I need to change the FTDi USB-to-Serial adapter's driver to one of them ?
Thanks

No, this should go smoothly. You've done everything right I think. I've used that board before and it works.
Um, can you connect and talk to the CMUcam4 using the parallax serial terminal? Find and open the COM port at 19200 baud rate. It you can talk to it via serial then everything should be okay. The red light should go off as it's being programmed because the processor is being reset.
No propeller chip found on any serial port means that the programming tool scanned all the serial ports and did not find the propeller chip. Did you make sure to set the propeller tool to reset the propeller chip using both the RTS and DTR pins? This is mentioned on the first page of the manual.
Um, is the programmer connected properly? Not backwards?
You should be good to go... This usually works without problems.
Try BST out as a finally effort. It's multi platform so it will run on windows.
Other than that I have no other ideas. You can't brick the chip so just keep trying different things until it works. There's no danger.
Thanks,

Have you added the four programming pins to the card? You have to solder thenm beside the 6 pins on the card.
